Situated close to the south coast and only 60 minutes from central London, Claremont is a co-educational boarding school in East Sussex, focused on giving students the best possible preparation for the world.

Whether a student needs full boarding or weekly boarding, we pride ourselves on offering everyone a genuine home-from-home. Together, we form a close-knit international and British community with a friendly, caring environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

In 2021 Claremont Boarding provision was judged to be ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted just before the school was named Independent School of the Year for the Performing Arts.

Two homely boarding houses

Claremont boarders are aged between 10 and 18. Although our Boys and Girls’ boarding houses each have their own identity, they both offer the same high standards of care and educational support in a happy and safe environment.

Whether students board to develop their English skills, to become more independent, to access a British university or simply to enjoy the conviviality of boarding life, their experience at Claremont is always enriching. Our ultimate aim is to enable our boarders to achieve their full potential, academically, creatively and personally.

Our principles

The boarding team at Claremont aims to deliver an educational experience of the highest standard in facilities of quality and comfort. We seek to promote a safe, healthy and inspirational environment to allow our students to develop independence and responsibility. Our boarding staff take great pride and care in supporting students as they adjust to life away from home.

Our guiding ethos is the promotion of mutual respect between staff and students. It is a collaborative spirit that pervades all elements of Claremont boarding and the School as a whole. Our principal aim in boarding is:

To create a supportive and nurturing community, one that has a safe and inclusive learning ethos, and to give encouragement and affirmation to enable students to achieve their potential in all areas of life: academically, creatively and personally.
