Academic

At Claremont Senior School, we aim to deliver a genuinely holistic educational experience which gives our students the platform to fulfill their potential both inside and outside the classroom.

Across all sections of the school our learning programmes are focused around the ‘Five Pillars’. These inform all aspects of the curriculum, both inside and outside the classroom:

  1. Academic Achievement; an ambitious and innovative offering that develops literacy, numeracy, scientific, cultural literacy and creative expression.
  2. Life Skills: personal, social and emotional development, promotion of physical wellbeing through sports, soft skills and wider life competencies.
  3. EAL & Multilingualism: Communication through language; embracing bilingualism and multilingualism, promotion of second language acquisition
  4. Future Pathways: Focus on the development of skills and qualifications that open up opportunities and choices for the next stage of education.
  5. International Learning Opportunities for Students (ILOS): part of a global community of schools; development of a world awareness through virtual and in person experiences and collaboration.

Every student is supported by a framework which recognises that there are a range of factors which will shape their development: a broad and varied curriculum; strong pastoral guidance, a House system and attentive academic support.

The academic programme is built around the five teaching faculties: Enterprise, Science & Technology, Humanities, Creative Arts and Communication.

Each one brings together different, but related subjects, providing an immersive learning experience which emphasises the ‘good struggle’ and enables the students to learn both high-level concepts and detailed content.

The faculties also provide the platform for delivery of our diverse co-curricular programme, This is based on our Life Competency Skills programme and gives students the opportunity to tailor their learning programme for their own particular needs as the move through the school.
