Achievements and recoginition

In a remarkable achievement, Claremont Prep School was awarded the prestigious BBC Young Reporter School status following the publication of its 11th issue. This recognition allows the young reporters to wear official BBC press pass lanyards during their club sessions and while conducting interviews. They also benefit from access to a wealth of online resources aimed at enhancing their journalistic skills. This prestigious status not only boosts the confidence of the reporters but also enriches their writing experience as they learn from established media practices.

The dedication and hard work of The Arrow’s team has not gone unnoticed. In 2023, they won Editorial Team of the Year at the First News School Newspaper of the Year Competition, competing against school publications from around the globe, including those from Australia and Mexico. The judges praised the sense of community reflected in the newspaper, along with the high quality of the stories and articles featured. This accolade underscores the commitment of the young reporters to excellence and the impact of their work within and beyond their school.

A supportive learning environment

Under the guidance of Cathryn Kemp, an author and former journalist, pupils at The Arrow are encouraged to develop their journalism skills through hands-on learning experiences. The Arrow Newspaper Club not only fosters a love for writing but also cultivates essential soft skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and adaptability. These skills are invaluable and will serve the students well into their future endeavors.
