Sixth Form Life

In the Sixth Form, our focus is on the development of the ‘individual’, their uniqueness and personal interests. We nurture a collaborative, committed and self-starting mentality, which prepares the students for the future challenges of university, an apprenticeship or the workplace.

Sixth Form student life is busy and purposeful, with opportunities, encouragement and support at every turn. A comprehensive enrichment programme develops students in three key areas: personal, professional, and academic; and assessment is rigorous, with regular progress updates for both students and parents. Our diverse co-curricular programme complements the academic programme and is built around the specific needs, aspirations and learning styles of each individual. All Sixth Form students have a tutor to advise and mentor them and our pastoral support helps them develop the independent work ethic required to succeed at this level.

The House system is the backbone of student life at Claremont. Each year group is split into twelve tutor groups, each assigned to a House. Sixth Formers are looked upon as student leaders within their House and encouraged to take on leadership roles.

There are a wide range of opportunities for Prefect roles both for the School and each House. The Role of Prefect is varied, sometimes challenging and always rewarding. Functioning effectively as a team, implementing projects, being a role model for peers and a supportive member of the school community are just a few aspects of the role.

Support is at hand through weekly meetings with a member of the Senior Leadership Team. In these sessions, Prefects learn the basics of meeting etiquette, such as the role of a chair person or taking minutes. The School Prefect Google Forum also enables ideas to be shared and discussions to be logged.

Claremont School - Swimming Pool

We believe that staying physically fit as a teenager has an important role to play in helping a smooth transition to adulthood. Sixth Form students take part in timetabled sport on one afternoon per week, which can include squad training and matches in competitive sport, or other varied exercise opportunities, including circuit training, basketball, strength and conditioning, fitness sessions, yoga, pilates, running club, dance and kickboxing. We also have an indoor pool with a regular swimming programme.
