Claremont Prep School is a truly magical place to learn and grow. We have created an environment where children feel happy, secure and valued and where we are able to motivate and guide our children to succeed and achieve in many areas of school life. Children are encouraged to use their initiative and take responsibility for themselves and, as a result, develop high levels of confidence and self-esteem. School life centres on a broad and balanced curriculum, designed and developed by a large, well-qualified teaching staff with the aim of teaching a breadth of skills which will equip our pupils for senior school and life beyond.
In lessons, pupils are taught that it is a good thing to aim high, and that there are no limits to furthering skills and knowledge in and outside of the classroom. Pupils are also encouraged to take risks and to realise that there is no harm in ‘having a go’ and getting things wrong. Our Attitude to Learning grades demonstrate to pupils the part they play in getting the most out of their Claremont journey, but fundamentally, an understanding that their contribution and participation is always valued, whatever the result.
Claremont Prep is a happy and energetic community, where good manners and kindness are fundamental qualities in our children. They are caring and considerate towards each other but at the same time, mindful of those less fortunate than themselves. The many fundraising activities the children get involved in throughout the year is testament to this, no more so than our annual ‘Fund-Raising Week in which children really enjoy the process of developing their ideas to raise awareness and much needed funds for charities of their choice. The children really delight in each others’ successes, so our celebration assemblies are a cherished part of the week when the whole school meets to sing songs, share stories, give each other encouragement and notable individuals, well deserved commendations.
We have extensive modern facilities, including a purpose-built theatre, dance studio and assembly hall, a floodlit all weather sports pitch, an indoor sports hall, a heated indoor and outdoor swimming pool, as well as dedicated facilities for Science, Music, Art, French and IT. We have beautiful grounds and sports fields, acres of enchanting woodlands and even our own Ice House in the forest! We are also fortunate to own a study centre in St Omer, northern France, fondly referred to as La Maison Claremont. The annual Year 5 trip to France is a highlight of the school calendar!
As children move up through the school, they are given more opportunities to demonstrate they are able to make good and responsible decisions about their own welfare and safety on site. They value the increased independence and responsibility they are given in return, which can be as simple as being able to use our extensive school grounds without microscopic supervision to leading a school assembly or taking on the role of Head Boy or Girl.
