House System & Senior League

At our school, the House system is the heart of our Claremont community, fostering a strong sense of belonging, with each house having its own unique identity.

Prep School

We have three Houses at the Prep School; Athens, Corinth and Sparta.

Each week, the number of Stars and Commendations for students in each team are added up and celebrated during Friday’s assembly. The students’ Heads of House charity events, the annual Spelling Bee, Swimming Gala and Sports Day are just some of the inter-house challenges that run throughout the year with the winning House announced during Claremont Day.

Senior School

The House system plays a central role at the Senior School, providing a strong sense of belonging in our Claremont community.  It allows all students to explore the nature of competition, teamwork and leadership, whilst also trying new experiences.  Our four Houses are named after four Historic castles, which sit across the local Kent and East Sussex countryside; Bodiam, Camber, Pevensey and Scotney.

Each house has a team of tutors and a Head of House who have pastoral responsibility for their students both in terms of welfare and overall progress.  Amongst the House assemblies, House competitions, House charity events, and House dinners, each House has its own unique identity (and its own House T-shirt) with students from all year groups working and socialising together.

Claremont Senior League

Senior School life is busy so to keep spirits high and generate some healthy competition, the Claremont League recognises, rewards and celebrates student and House endeavours in all their forms, both academic and pastoral, individual and community including outstanding attitudes to learning. Students can gain merits or commendations from a variety of means ranging from excellent work in the class, to showing initiative in co-curricular programmes, to being a good citizen to a fellow student. Points are cumulated over each half term with many opportunities for students to win prizes each week. The much-coveted House Cup is fiercely and proudly contested with the winner announced at the end of the year.
