Dance Pro puts GCSE and BTEC students through their paces

This week our GCSE and BTEC students were treated to a contemporary dance masterclass by professional dancer Jordan Nesbitt. Jordan graduated from Urdang and has been a pro dancer for a number of years with credits that include Mamma Mia 2, Qdos dance Captain and dancer, many a professional pantomime and commercial work overseas.

Jordan taught the students some challenging contemporary dance phrases that they are keen to develop back in the dance studio with Mrs Eckhoff as part of their examination group pieces. The content was new for all of our dances so they were able to not only expand their movement vocabulary but work on some complex sequences that really challenged them physically. In the final workshop students were put through their paces in a very physical warm up and new routine which they danced together with Jordan himself!

I enjoyed the dance workshop so much. It was amazing to see a professional dancer up close. It is definitely one of the best things, if not the best thing I have ever done at Claremont. It was so cool to see Jordan’s passion for dance as it fuelled my own passion for dance even more. It was amazing from technical stand point and it really pushed my capability which was so satisfying as it gave me lots of new ideas for dance routines in the future. I was just able to let go during his workshop along with everyone else, and together we created a very powerful piece.
