The Claremont Pre-High School and Pre-A Level programmes perfectly meet the needs of international students, for whom English is a second language.
The Pre-High School and Pre-A level programmes are unique in so far as they offer a careful combination of intensive English language tuition, whole school classes and a broad co-curricular programme. This ensures that our international students become fully integrated and valued members of the Claremont community.
Pre-A Level Programme
For international students aged 15-16
Entry requirements: Minimum 9 years of schooling with a good school record
Language requirements: IELTS 4.0+
Hours per week: 30+
Course duration: 3 terms (September start- July end), 2 terms (January start- July end), 5 terms (January start – following July end)
This course equips students with the academic foundations needed to progress onto our A level or BTEC courses. It enables students to excel in their chosen university preparation programme and to take full advantage of the Claremont Sixth Form learning experience.
During the Pre-A Level programme, our expert staff develop a strong relationship with the students. This enables them to offer personal and professional guidance when the students choose their Year 12 subjects and, eventually, their university path.

Language requirements: Near beginner
Hours per week: 30+
Course duration: 3 terms (September start- July end), 2 terms (January start- July end), 5 terms (January start – following July end)
The Pre-High School programme is ideal for students aged 11-13 whose entry level of English is A1/A2 and who wish to lay the necessary academic foundations for a successful Year 9 entry into the Senior school, followed by a two-year GCSE course.
Key elements to the programme include:
Intensive Academic English towards A2KEY or B1 Preliminary Cambridge accreditations. Taught in very small classes to ensure rapid progress and personalised learning.
Supported familiarisation with the English education system and British culture as part of a small and friendly school.
Small bespoke group teaching in Science and Humanities to allow students to catch up academically whilst encouraging a focus on language development.
Integration through mainstream classes in Information Technology, Music, Art, Drama & Sport.
Access to our extensive co-curricular programme which includes activities around art, music, ecology and sport, to allow students to add another dimension to their studies and thrive emotionally.
Integration within the school pastoral and wellbeing programme including daily contact with a Form tutor. Support and guidance from the Director of Boarding and the Boarding House Leads.
