The Arrow is a Winning Team!

Prep School Newspaper Club’s termly publication, The Arrow has won the First News Editorial Team of the Year Award 2023!  School publications from around the world, including Australia and Mexico entered the competition,  so this is a huge achievement for Claremont’s young journalists.

The judges liked our sense of community, as well as the quality of the articles, which this year have included hard hitting stories about the children’s work to raise awareness of pollution in our oceans, and how their tenacious fight for change has been rewarded by audiences with local MPs and an exciting trip to the Houses of Parliament to present their petition.

The whole school community today joins the Newspaper Club in celebration of this wonderful award.  Here are the children pictured with Claremont Family and Friends (formerly Friends of Claremont School) charity, and local designer Tracy Jones of Pebble Creative Media who they wanted to thank for their continued support.

We are so proud of our journalists at The Arrow. They are learning skills as young people, which will serve them well for their future studies and working life, and especially as we are a BBC Young Reporter school

Principal, Severine Collins

The Arrow has a dedicated following across the whole school community and the school has earned ‘Young BBC Reporter School’ status in recognition of the children’s work.  Our roving reporters wear BBC press pass lanyards during their weekly Newspaper Club sessions and when they are out on the interview trail, they write with BBC pens, and are able to draw from a wealth of online resources that encourage excellence in journalism for young people.

At Claremont, ‘hands on’ learning experiences enable children to spend more time learning and less time being ‘taught’. They help develop a variety of crucial ‘life skills’ such as teamwork, communication, problem solving, flexibility, adaptability and a strong work ethic.  All these skills are put to the test every Friday afternoon in Newspaper Club.

Great work everyone!
