Claremont named U19 2nd XI County Champs

There were big celebrations up at the Senior School this week when our U19 2nd X1 team was crowned SSFA County Cup winners after a stunning 3-2 victory against Varndean College at Sussex County FA’s ground in Lancing. Both teams played some exceptionally strong teams to book their places in the Final, but it was Claremont that came through in the end with a 3-2 win having initially trailed 2-0 with 10 minutes left on the clock.

The goalscorers were Jona Lutzenberger, Philip Katraouzos and Soham Varshneya with particularly notable performances from Matt Summers and Vincent Schmidt and Sena Aklotsoe named ‘Man of the Match’.

This was a fairy tale win for us. Not just the fact we won the game but the nature of the way we did it, from 2-0 down in 10 minutes the boys showed their character and belief to win 3-2. Staying disciplined and playing football the way we have played all season –

Jim Colston, Academy Director

Wins over Sussex Downs College Eastbourne, Seaford Head, Bexhill College and Bedes School secured Claremont’s place in the Final for a team that is truly international as it is made up of 12 different nationalities.
