‘Claremont Extra’, was an idea born out of the confines of lockdown when Drama and Music students started to work with the original and powerful creative medium of Radio in order to share the plays that they had been devising and rehearsing with an audience.  Claremont Extra’s main feature is the student-produced radio drama ‘Holly Avenue’, which is scripted, voice-acted and edited by the students. Each Podcast episode also includes a quote of the week, chosen and read by our Senior School Head Mr Dickie, and exclusive interviews with members of staff from across the school in a feature entitled ‘The Sofa’.  The students are responsible for all elements of the radio show, from scheduling, planning and recording interviews to creating jingles and soundbeds. The first two episodes have been a huge hit at the Senior School, and the third installment is well underway. Planning sessions are lively and purposeful with students from all year groups spending each week in ‘Radio Co-Cu’ sessions discussing plot ideas, character developments and story arcs and quick castings for ‘Holly Avenue’ before recording the show and then editing with sound effects and jingles.  Other members of the team head out into the field in search of their next guest on the ‘sofa’, always with a quick pitstop at Mr Dickie’s office to pick up his quote of the week. The Claremont Performs team said:

“There is no end to how we can use this medium and the students have an abundance of ideas for the coming weeks, months and who knows… maybe years!
