Team Claremont has won the ‘Best Production Design Award’ for their short film BETCHA, at the first ISP Film Festival.
In January 2021, ISP launched the first International Film Festival, providing Claremont students with the opportunity to take part in a short film competition alongside 32 other ISP schools across the world. The Claremont ‘all girl’ crew was made of Lucy B, Tino T and Bella G, all from different year groups and eager to impress. Over a four month period the girls all took to the ‘director’s chair’, working tirelessly around the school timetable to finally bring their creative interpretation of the theme ‘I wish I hadn’t done that’ to the big screen. It was a huge challenge for a small group to learn, plan and deliver a production (especially under COVID conditions), but they combined their strengths in script writing, performance art and media tech know-how, and created ‘BETCHA’ – a short film highlighting the fear women face when they make their way home alone. Featuring women from three different eras being ‘watched’, the film oozes atmospheric tension and the musical talents of Joe B who created a new arrangement based on Chicago’s Cell Block Tango.
Huge congratulations to the girls, and to Sarah Fretwell, Natasha Smith, Sarah Cakebread, Poppy Payne and the rest of the Claremont crew who supported and backed them all the way (you know who you are!).
