Nursery Curriculum

Let them play, watch them learn

The latest Early Years Foundation Stage national framework shapes our curriculum and we strive to carefully balance adult led and child initiated play to create fun but meaningful learning activities. The outstanding facilities and superb resources at Claremont facilitate the most innovative and inspirational ways to develop confidence, imagination and understanding in each child.

We broaden the curriculum further, through organised sessions with a specialist teacher for Music, French, Yoga, Forest School and Gardening for children in the Dragonflies and Damselflies classes.

At Claremont Nursery School, we use Tapestry – this is an online learning journal tool which enables our practitioners to monitor each child’s development. Practitioners are able to capture and share special moments with parents whether it be messy play or important milestones like a child counting their first numbers.

There are many special events such as picnics, nativity productions and sports day held throughout the year which parents and their wider families are warmly invited to attend. We hope these become happy, family memories of life at Claremont Nursery.

Ladybirds (2 years to 3 years)

We offer a range of creative activities, as well as lots of vigorous outdoor play and exploration in Ladybirds for your child  to become an independent, amazing learner. The provision is designed to support all round development, as well as helping to ensure a fun-filled, happy and productive day. It is at this stage that we work in partnership with you to help potty train your child. There are plenty of opportunities for adventuring through the woods, Jubilee Garden and grounds as the children become more physically robust and up for it. We have a dedicated art room too for serendipity, messier and exploratory creative projects.

Dragonflies and Damselflies (3 years to Reception Age)

Two classes run for the final year at Nursery. The Damselflies classroom is accommodated in ‘Splash’ next to the Pre-Prep department and the Dragonflies have their own classroom at the top of the Nursery building. They access Splash regularly to interact with their peers and use the resources there.

Both classes offer exciting, challenging and thought-provoking creative activities. French, Forest School, Music, and Yoga are timetabled weekly and are all run by specialist teachers. In the Lent and Summer terms we increase our contact with the Pre-Prep department and start using the Reception classrooms as part of our transition programme. This helps to ensure a smooth passage from Nursery to ‘big school’.
