London Science Museum visit – Year 6

This week, Year 6 pupils headed out on an adventure to the London Science Museum.  Despite a rather damp start to the day, the children were very excited and kept themselves busy with a variety of activities (and snacks!) on the train up to London.

The next stage of the journey involved jumping on the London Underground to South Kensington and a short walk to the London Science Museum. For some children this was a totally new experience, and ‘tube surfing’ quickly became the sport of choice for many.

Once we arrived at the Museum we entered the new ‘WonderLab’ with lots of hands-on activities and mini science experiments for the children to interact with. The friction slides were a favourite, along with Mr Richardson ‘volunteering’ to sit on a chair of nails!

Everyone had a brilliant time navigating the different experiments and learning in an active way. After lunch, we made our way to the Space Gallery, with lots of space related models and many objects that had made the journey into space.  After a number of requests, the children also managed to squeeze in a trip to the gift shop, where numerous crystals and other science related gifts were purchased.

We then made our way to the IMAX for a cinema experience like no other.  We watched a NASA film entitled  ‘A Beautiful Planet’ that shows what life is like on the International Space Station – and there were some amazing views of planet Earth. The 3D experience of weightlessness had some pupils (and some staff) feeling a little queasy.

All in all, it was a fantastic day of Science. Thank you to Mrs Alexander and Mrs Llyod for supporting the Science department on this trip.  The pupils were an absolute credit to the school.
