Claremont School is set over two magnificent sites in East Sussex, a beautiful area of the South of England, 50 miles south of London and next to the seaside town of Hastings. The School is a member of The International Schools Partnership (ISP) and is their flagship school in the UK. Claremont has two well-equipped and seperate Girls and Boys’ boarding houses and a superb range of on-site facilities at the School. These facilities include:
State of the art classrooms (including new science laboratories, IT facilities and Art Department)
Both of our boarding houses are deliberately located off-campus, as we believe it is vital for the students to have a break from school at the end of the day and on the weekends. Clyde and Pyke House are a 15 minutes drive to the Senior School by Claremont shuttle bus. Clyde House is 5 minutes drive to the seaside whilst Pyke House is just 5 minutes walk to the mainline station into London.
Other advantages of off-site boarding include:
A clear distinction between school life and home life, which aids rest and relaxation.
Giving students a greater sense of independence whilst preparing them for adult life and the world of work.
Far greater student integration with the local community.
Easy, supervised access to local amenities.
The boarding houses feel much more like ‘home’.
Easier integration at school with day students.
High levels of classroom attendance throughout the day.
In More Detail…
Battle High Street
Fitted out to the highest standards and with space for some 44 students, Pyke House provides a home for our Girls and Junior boarders. It is situated in the historic town of Battle, adjacent to the English Heritage site of the Battle of Hastings and just a five-minute walk from Battle railway station. There is a direct service into London Charing Cross station, taking less than an hour and a half. The boarding house has lovely communal areas and it also has an attractive garden with some outdoor sports facilities and access to the battlefield. The high street is only a few minutes walk away with a good selection of shops and restaurants. The town also has a football pitch, basketball court and tennis courts which are free to use. A number of churches are also located in the town.
Clyde House, our Boys’ boarding house, is located just a couple of minutes’ drive from the Prep School. Sleeping up to 60 students, this house offers many single rooms and a high proportion of en suite facilities. Its large garden, spacious rooms and excellent communal areas provide our students with the perfect home-from-home.
Some of the main features of boarding at Claremont School are as follows:
Male and female boarding for UK and overseas students from the age of 11 to 18 years of age.
International students to represent no more than 10% of the entire student roll.
Clyde House
English as the common language both in the boarding house and at school.
Both houses benefit from large common rooms and have gardens and grounds extending to over 2 hectares.
Many organised extra-curricular activities for all pupils but optional for Year 13 students
Common rooms for Juniors and Seniors
Wi-Fi throughout the boarding houses and in every room, with controls set by the school to switch off late at night and restrict access to inappropriate sites at all times
There are large, well-equipped common rooms with large screen TVs in both houses, together with games consoles, pool tables and other leisure activities. Computers linked to the school network are also in the houses for the boarders to use.
Breakfast and Dinner are freshly prepared and eaten in the boarding houses.
Highly-experienced residential and non-residential staff manage both houses
Excellent medical provision at both houses, including sick bays and isolation facilities.
Weekend use of the extensive school facilities including swimming pool, sport centre, sports fields, gym, music facilities and theatre
All overseas boarders require a UK-based Guardian who should be appointed by the agent or parents of the boarders. The school can help facilitate this.
All boarders are expected to have an Activity Fund to fund their extra-curricular activities, purchase resources, pay towards educational school trips without having to always require cash transactions.
Our boarding staff can arrange transport via taxi or minibus for all overseas students for airport arrivals and departures, providing sufficient notice is given.
‘We create a supportive and nurturing community, one that has a safe and inclusive learning ethos, and to give the encouragement and affirmation to enable students to achieve their potential in all areas of life: academically, creatively and personally.’
